How to take care of your watch?

Watch

Although one in four people say they don’t use their watches for telling the time, they certainly use them as a fashion accessory. Watches are becoming more and more a status symbol and they can tell something about your lifestyle. So here are some tips to take care of your watch and to keep it in perfect condition.

1 Clean your watch with a soft cloth

To keep your watch in good running condition, clean your watch case and the strap on a regular basis. If your watch is not waterproof, use a dry, soft polishing cloth to wipe the case and strap to remove any excessive dirt. If your watch is water resistant, you can clean it by using a damp cloth. If you want to know whether your watch is waterproof or not, read all about it in our waterproof watch blog.

2 Avoid contact with chemicals

Exposing your watch to chemicals like soap, detergents, cosmetics and perfumes can damage your watch case or strap. Wait until creams or perfume dry completely on your skin before wearing your watch. Also prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading on the watch, so avoid lengthy contact with sunshine.

If your watch strap suffers from irreparable damage, you can easily get it replaced without buying a new watch. For your information MISTER MINIT has more than 200 watch straps in its assortment.

3 Service your watch regularly

Ideally, a mechanical watch should be serviced every two years, while a quartz watches can be serviced every three years. Also, replace a dead battery as soon as possible to avoid the risk of leakage that can cause a serious damage to your watch.

But remember…

Never open your watch by yourself!

Watch Repair

Your watch is made of many individual components, designed with precision. It works for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It certainly deserves a great amount of attention. Opening your watch can expose it to dust, dirt, and other particles that can get inside the mechanism. It can also impact the water resistance of your watch.

It’s best if you leave this up to our trained MISTER MINIT specialists in our shops or at our central watch repair center.

4 Avoid scratches

It’s only a matter of time before your watch glass or strap shows scratches. To avoid this, remove your watch during activities that could create scratches.

Also, do not wear your bracelets on the same wrist. Wrist jewelry might scratch either the sides or the glass of your watch.

And be careful, do not drop your watch on the ground! In addition to the possible scratches, unexpected impact may cause damage to the crystal, case, and the internal components.

5 Store your watch properly

When not wearing your watch, store it properly

Watch Storage Box

To avoid humidity and dust, use the original box and packaging or store it in a box containing your other watches.

If you're storing watches in a watch box, make sure they are stored separately from one another to avoid wear caused by friction. Also, do not store your watches face down.
